BLAST Pro Series Global Final 2019 Day 1 Results
The conclusion to the year-long BLAST Pro Series circuit of tournaments kicked off yesterday, December 12th, in Riffa, Bahrain. With tournaments all over the world from Copenhagen to Los Angeles, it’s been an exciting year for BLAST Pro Series.
The final tournament of 2019 is a four-team $500,000 prize pool event. The four teams competing at the event — Astralis, Team Liquid, NIP, and G FUEL-sponsored FaZe Clan — were decided by how well they performed at BLAST Pro Series events over the course of the year.
The four teams are facing off in a double-elimination bracket-style tournament. The winners of the day 1 matches will face off in the winner’s bracket finals, and the losers will face off in the losers finals. The three-day event will conclude with the Grand Finals where two teams will compete for the lions share of the $500,000 prize pool, with the first place team securing $350,000.
So what happened during day one of the BLAST Pro Series Global Final 2019?
We’ll take you through all the day one action!
FaZe Clan vs. NIP
The first match of the day was FaZe Clan going against the Ninjas in Pajamas. It was a battle of the international roster versus the new and up-coming Swedish lineup. The first map of the BO3 was Vertigo, the latest map to be added to the map pool. On this map, we witnessed FaZe Clan go up a quick 4-0 lead, just for NIP to power their way back to tie the game. Further in the match, NIP was looking strong as they had a commanding lead 14-10 on the CT side. A late push back from FaZe was not enough, and they ultimately lost the first map 16-13.
Going into map 2 of the BO3, it was now slated to be on Mirage, one of the oldest maps in the current map pool. On this map, it was pretty much a one-sided affair. After NIP got off to a strong 5-1 lead, FaZe was not able to regain. After gathering seven rounds throughout the rest of the match, they ultimately fell to the Ninjas 16-7.
With this win, NIP secured themselves a place in the winners-bracket finals. As for FaZe Clan, they will fight for their tournament lives.
Team Liquid vs. Astralis
The second match of the day were two of the most dominant teams in CS:GO over the last year or so. Astralis came off their third major in a row not too long ago and were looking to add yet another trophy to their lustrous cabinet. The first map of the match was Nuke, a staple of both of these teams, and it was a treat to watch if you’re an Astralis fan. Team Liquid got off to a solid lead 6-2, but Astralis fought their way back and were neck and neck the rest of the way. Astralis came out on top of the first map in the BO3 series 16-12 and looked to capitalize on their momentum going into the second map.
The second map of the match was on fan favorite-Inferno. This was another match where Team Liquid got off to a blazing start as they went up yet again 5-1. However much like the previous map, this was not enough for Team Liquid. After some more back and forth action from both teams, Astralis came out on top of this one 16-13, locking themselves into that winners-bracket final against NIP.
This leaves Team Liquid to battle FaZe Clan today.
