Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Gunfight Alpha Community Reactions

Call of Duty will be entering a new era with Modern Warfare as the classic game will be getting a reboot along with professional CoD moving into a franchise model. Modern Warfare will be following Black Ops 4’s steps and keeping multiplayer 5v5, however, this weekend wasn’t focused on standard multiplayer.

Gunfight is a new mode to Call of Duty that will feature strategic teamwork in a small map where players fight off in 2v2 matches. Players who enjoy Counter-Strike: Global Offensive or Rainbow Six Seige will love Gunfight, as this mode does not promote CoD’s typical “run and gun” meta. Players will battle to reach six successful rounds before the enemy duo. If players are not able to eliminate their enemies, tiebreakers come down to health and the objective.

The maps in Gunfight are smaller in scale in order to keep the map reasonable for four total players. Matches can be extremely short due to a few well-placed sniper shots. A typical round of Team Deathmatch can run about 10 minutes, but Gunfight matches can run as short as a couple of minutes.

Members of the G FUEL squad were definitely impressed with Infinity Ward’s fresh take on Call of Duty, especially the two-time himself, Dr. Disrespect

Doug “Censor” Martin had some bold words to say in his fresh new buzz cut. Without dropping a single map on the alpha’s launch day, he is looking to make a splash by landing with a new team for the new Call of Duty Global League.

FaZe Clan’s Dillon “Attach” Price couldn’t get enough of the Gunfight alpha as he streamed dozens of hours for fans to watch and enjoy. One clip he posted went on to gain almost 60,000 views where the FaZe professional was in a sniper-only match. He was down 1v2 with the map count at 4-5, and it wasn’t looking promising. With a quick two-tap to a player across the map, Attach was able to rotate and land a beautiful jump-shot headshot snipe for the series to go on.

Thanks to the revamped movement system, alpha players immediately noticed how much smoother aiming down sights, jumping, mantling, and weapon recoil were. In this clip from Attach, you can see his teammate taking advantage of the new system in order to move safely around the map while his duo made a quick snack.

360 snipes are the bread and butter of Call of Duty content creation since sniper montages were what arguably kickstarted the genre on YouTube. FaZe Clan was notorious for their sniper montages across multiple Call of Duty games, and they still remain one of the top Call of Duty organizations to date. G FUEL-sponsored Brandon “Sharp” Rodgers hopped on the meme train by pulling off this round-ending 360 snipe.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will drop on October 25th on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
