GTA 5 cheats are button sequences, PC console words or in-game phone numbers that only work in Story Mode. Enter them during normal gameplay and keep a separate save, because cheats disable achievements and trophies until you reload.
This list covers PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC. We checked every sequence against a second guide, and the phone numbers against the keypad letters, so a typo in the old list is not carried over.
There is no money cheat, and GTA Online blocks all of them. For everything else, jump to your platform below.

How to Enter GTA 5 Cheat Codes
GTA 5 cheats work in Story Mode on every platform, and there are three ways to enter them. Pick the one that matches how you play:
- PlayStation and Xbox Type the button sequence during normal gameplay. No pause menu is needed. A short on-screen notification confirms the cheat went through.
- PC Press the tilde key (~) to open the console, type the cheat word and press Enter.
- Phone (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC) Open the in-game phone, bring up the dial pad and call the 1-999 number. This is the fastest method on a controller because you never touch the d-pad sequence.
Do GTA 5 Cheats Work in GTA Online?
No. Cheat codes only work in single-player Story Mode, and GTA Online ignores them on every platform. There is also no money cheat in either mode. Anything that claims to give you cash in GTA Online is a mod menu, and those can get you banned.
If you came here for Online money, our Cayo Perico payout guide covers the legit route.
Older games work the same way: see our Vice City cheats and GTA 3 cheats.

Cheats That Need an Unlock First
The newer versions of GTA 5 (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC) have a few vehicle cheats that only work after you finish a specific event. GTA BOOM tested them and reports the requirements below. We could not confirm them in a second source, so treat the unlock steps as player-reported.
| Cheat | PC word | Phone number | Reported unlock |
|---|---|---|---|
| Duke O'Death | DEATHCAR | 3328-4227 | Complete the Duel random event |
| Kraken submarine | BUBBLES | 282-2537 | Complete the Wildlife Photography Challenge |
| Dodo seaplane | EXTINCT | 398-4628 | Complete the Sea Plane random event |
| Director Mode | JRTALENT | 57-825368 | None reported |
Which Cheat Should You Use?
There are 30-plus cheats, but most players only use a handful. Here is which one fits which goal.
| If you want to… | Use | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Survive a gunfight | Max health and armor, then invincibility | Invincibility lasts 5 minutes, so top up first and re-enter it when it ends. |
| Cause chaos safely | Explosive bullets, then lower wanted level | Lower wanted level removes one star per entry. |
| Get around fast | Buzzard helicopter or Sanchez dirt bike | The Buzzard crosses the map in minutes. The Sanchez handles mountains. |
| Explore without dying | Parachute and moon gravity | Moon gravity softens long falls, and the parachute covers the rest. |
| Film something silly | Slidey cars, drunk mode, slow motion | These are the most visual cheats. Enter slow motion again to change the effect. |
Tips for Using GTA 5 Cheats
- Re-enter to turn off Entering the same code again usually, but not always, switches the cheat off. Reloading a save always resets everything.
- Invincibility runs out It lasts about five minutes per entry. Enter it again to keep going.
- Slow motion stacks Players report Slow Motion and Slow-Motion Aim go further each time you enter them, up to three times.
- Weather cycles Each weather entry moves to the next weather type.
- Cheats reset between sessions Re-enter them each time you load in.
GTA 5 Cheats Not Working? Quick Fixes
- Make sure you are in Story Mode. GTA Online blocks every cheat.
- Leave any active mission. Mission-restricted cheats show Cheat Denied.
- On PC, open the console with ~ and type the word exactly, then press Enter. If ~ does nothing, use the phone numbers instead.
- On console, enter the sequence in one go. Pausing partway through resets the input.
- If an unlock cheat (Duke O'Death, Kraken, Dodo) is denied, you probably have not completed its event yet.
Fuel the Los Santos Grind
Cheat-fueled chaos sessions run long. If you want something in the shaker, see what is inside every tub on our Inside the Formula page.
Fuel for the Long Sessions
Los Santos sessions can run for hours, and a shaker on the desk makes the stretch between saves easier.
A lot of players keep a shaker of G FUEL Energy Formula next to the desk for sessions like this: zero sugar, 140 mg of caffeine per serving and 40 servings per tub. For the breaks between sessions, G FUEL Supreme Hydration brings electrolytes with zero caffeine.
