TSM Commandment Talks Fortnite World Cup Nerves And Juggling Esports And School

Fourteen-year-old Commandment, TSM’s youngest player, has made big waves in the competitive Fortnite scene after qualifying for the Fortnite World Cup.

Commandment has a very defined playstyle that he attributed his Fortnite wins to. He values a, “passive, build heavy” style that incorporates elements of his favorite Fortnite pro Jake “Poach” Brumleve.

Without giving away too many secrets, Commandment acknowledged that his favorite place to land, Soccer Field, isn’t based on how good it is but rather because it’s been the place to land since his early competitive days.

Commandment started watching Poach early on, taking to his playstyle and attitude in-game. It seems to be working because without a coach, Commandment won himself a spot at the Fortnite World Cup — and in the first week too!

Qualifying for the Fortnite World Cup means a lot to Commandment, and the stress of qualifying quickly disappeared after he secured his invite to the World Cup in that first week. After eight long months of practicing in customs every day, the hard work finally paid off. There’s a lot of time and effort that goes into creating such a rigorous schedule.

Commandment attributes his ability to balance competitive Fortnite, the qualifiers, and school with being an online student. The ability to focus on gaming when he needs to, and then have the flexibility to study, means he can focus, “performing to the best of my ability,” said Commandment.

And with Commandment’s drive and commitment to Fortnite, achieving his goals as being recognized as one of the best Fortnite players in the competitive scene shouldn’t be an issue.

Commandment has a good understanding of how to handle pressure, especially when most other 14-year-olds would be nervous performing in front of such a large audience. While he was slightly nervous about the first week of qualifiers, Commandment is happy to stream the qualifiers on stream.

When it comes to feeling pressured or nervous about performing as well as his TSM teammates, those thoughts don’t phase him. Commandment said that he doesn’t compare himself to others. “I just try to focus on performing to the best of my ability,” said Commandment. It’s advice that any player in any game should take to heart.

Looking towards the Fortnite World Cup, Commandment doesn’t have any nerves. He’s excited to play in his first LAN event and meeting all the other competitive Fortnite players.

To prepare, he’ll be focusing on playing as many pro customers as he can to ensure that if a new patch drops, he’ll be ready. The RNG factor in Fortnite can be worrying, but he’s combating Fortnite’s crazy last-minute patch changes by just being as prepared as possible.
