E11's Tschinken Talks Flaming On Twitter, Keeping Calm During Fortnite World Cup

We’re just days away from the biggest tournament in Fortnite - the Fortnite World Cup. Ahead of the tournament, we’ve been featuring players who have put their passion for Fortnite ahead of everything else in the hopes of winning big this weekend.

We had the pleasure of sitting down with Eleven Gaming’s very own Thomas “Tschinken” Hörak to talk about his experience in the qualifiers, what he’s looking forward to at the World Cup, and what signing to a team did for his confidence.

Let’s jump into it!

G FUEL: Let’s start with the basics. The Fortnite community knows you as Tschinken but what can you tell us about yourself?

Hey, my name is Thomas aka Tschinken. I am an 18-year-old Austrian who is a professional Fortnite player for E11. I’ve been playing video games since I was eight years old. Before Fortnite I played CS:GO, Overwatch, Rainbow Six Seige, and Call of Duty

G FUEL: That’s a large repertoire of games. With a history of playing video games, were you nervous about playing in the Fortnite World Cup Qualifiers?

I played a lot of tournaments before - that’s why I wasn’t nervous at all. We, Stompy and I, kept calm and tried our best and thankfully, it worked!

G FUEL: Experience definitely plays a part in being able to stay calm in tense situations. What was it like qualifying then, if it wasn’t nerve-racking?

When I qualified in Week 2 I didn’t even realize it at first. When I woke up the day after I was just so happy, I can’t describe the feeling but it was amazing.

G FUEL: So you woke up the next day and realized you had qualified. What was the first thing you did after you realized you were going to the Fortnite World Cup?

I asked my brother to drive me to McDonald’s with me and I got something to eat.

G FUEL: Sounds about right. Win Qualifiers, celebrate with food! What are you most looking forward to at the World Cup?

Playing on the Main Stage in front of a lot of people and show my skills. Also can’t wait to meet all the people from E11, like Stompy, BlooTea, and itemm, and the other pro players.

G FUEL: You mention your teammates and how you are looking forward to seeing them. Let’s talk a little bit about your team. Being signed to a team is a big deal, for any player. What was it like getting signed to E11?

E11 is an amazing org. I loved signing to E11 - all the people are awesome and very friendly.

G FUEL: What was the process of getting signed like?

Eleven Gaming messaged us like a week before Christmas. After that, we had a few talks and in the end, we got the contract and we signed it. It was a great Christmas gift!

G FUEL: Did getting signed to E11 make you feel more confident in your skills and mechanics? What changed when you got signed?

Yes, it definitely made me feel more confident. To be signed to a team like E11 is a great honour. It is one of the best, if not the best, team in the Fortnite scene and to be a part of it motivates me every day. To have the org tag in front of your in-game name felt great and it is pretty cool to have someone behind your back that manages a lot of things. It really allows us to focus on the game.

G FUEL: Let’s talk about the game, seeing as how close the Fortnite World Cup really is. Fortnite is different from a lot of other games that have patch updates that don’t “break the game.” How do you feel about the current system ahead of the WC on Friday?

You pretty much have to adapt to it. Just try to get good with the meta and try your best to stay on top. Flaming on Twitter, or any other social media platform, is useless. I’m not really worried about Friday, or a patch update ahead of Friday, I just play the meta and try to find the best things you can do.

G FUEL: Good advice - especially the bit about not flaming on Twitter. What’s your favorite place to land in Fortnite? Or is that a secret ahead of the WC?

It’s Frosty. We land there since it came out and me and Stompy fell in love with it. The loot is amazing, you always got rotations (ballers) - I also just like the look of it.

G FUEL: Anything you miss in the game that Fortnite has removed that you’d like to see added for the WC?

Yes - the grappler! The grappler was a great addition to Fortnite. You can do so many things with it - grapple onto high ground, move into the zone very fast, etc.

G FUEL: Any favorite cosmetics? Or must-have items?

Oh yes! The Skull Ranger and the Steel Carrot pickaxe. I played every final with these two cosmetics and it helped. :D

G FUEL: That’s a lucky charm if I’ve ever heard of one. What keeps you motivated to play competitive Fortnite?

The game is just great. I like the graphics of the game and to combine building with a Battle Royale is just insane! Also, the weekly updates keep the game fresh and interesting to grind every day.
