5 Games To Look Out For At Tokyo Game Show 2019

Once again, the best video game studios in the world have converged in Japan for the Tokyo Game Show (TGS). Video game fans from all around the globe are waiting anxiously to see a glimpse of their favorite, soon-to-be-released title to get amped up about. 2019 will be no different with the likes of Sony, Konami, Bandai Namco and more showing off their wares.

From trailers to playable demos to announcements, TGS 2019 will surely be another tent pole event in the video game calendar. However, following three days of non-stop video game news can be a lot. But don’t worry, we’re here to help simplify things.

Here are five games you should be looking out for at TGS 2019:

1. Final Fantasy VII Remake

Final Fantasy VII Remake might be the most hotly anticipated remake in video game history. FF7 holds a special place in the hearts of many gamers, and after years of begging Sony and Square Enix for a remake on the current gen, the two behemoths finally obliged.

Square Enix has promised that fans will get to see new gameplay details and footage of FF7 during TGS. Big fans of the series can get excited at the debut – or re-debut – of The Turks at TGS.

Sony and Square Enix have been slowly dangling the carrot in front of fans ahead of the release of FF7’s first episode (March 3, 2020), and TGS should be no different. Fans of the series will be able to see some live gameplay of the first episode during the first day of TGS.

2. Cyberpunk 2077

If Cyberpunk 2077 lives up the hype it’s receiving, it could be the type of generational game that helps define video games for years to come. Game developer CD Projekt has already developed the renowned The Witcher series, including The Witcher 3, which is regarded as one of the best games in the past decade.

Cyberpunk 2077 is their first foray of developing a game outside of The Witcher universe, and early signs are promising. We already saw some gameplay, trailers, screenshots, and a surprise appearance from Keeanu Reeves in Cyberpunk 2077, but excited video game fans can expect something new at TGS.

CD Projekt said, “Join us at Tokyo Game Show 2019 for the Japanese debut of this year’s Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay!” There will be a huge theater where each presentation will feature a live developer playthrough of the game’s demo, localized into Japanese. Attendees will also be able to check out a full-sized replica of V’s motorcycle, the Yaiba Kusanagi.

3. Nioh 2

The first Nioh released in February 2017 and continued the long tradition of Team Ninja creating punishing and difficult games. And though the game would happily kick your a** over and over and over again, it found a fervent fanbase due to the challenge, fantastic combat mechanics, and awesome setting. So, it was no surprise when Team Ninja announced that they would be creating a sequel at E3 2018.

Fans of the series got to see some of the gameplay a few months back when Nioh 2 had a closed alpha. In the alpha, fans got to see some of the new character creator, some new mechanics, and a reworked skill tree. However, there hasn’t been much in the way of official announcements since the alpha.

Nioh 2 will be getting a new playable demo at TGS 2019 with several different presentations throughout the week.

4. Marvel’s Avengers

Crystal Dynamics did not exactly blow the video game community away with their presentation of Marvel’s Avengers at E3. But, it’s hard to not get excited about the idea of playing a Marvel game that features customizable skill trees created by a studio that’s coming off a string of very successful Tomb Raider games.

Avengers will hold a panel that will feature Casey Lynch (Crystal Dynamics editorial director), Daisuke Yamamoto (localization producer), Shouhei Takaya (localization producer), and MC Susumu Imadachi (Eleki Comic).

We don’t exactly know what to expect from the panel, or what we can see of the actual game, but fans should keep an eye out nonetheless.

5. Code Vein

Code Vein by Bandai Namco Entertainment is just weeks away from releasing, but those of you who are looking forward to the game will get one last major tease before they can get their hands on it. Code Vein is a hack-and-slash RPG game set in a dystopian future that could remind viewers of games like Devil May Cry or Dark Souls.

The game will be playable at TGS while also hosting a live stream for fans not in attendance to watch. Plus, those who are anxiously awaiting Code Vein will get a new trailer for the game.
