The conclusion to the FIFA esports season, FIFA eClub World Cup 2020, takes place this weekend from February 7 - 9 in Milan, Italy. Unlike some FIFA events, this one will decide who is the best club team in the world. When and Where

The FIFA eClub World Cup 2020 takes place this upcoming weekend February 7 - 9, 2020 in Milan, Italy. The event was held at the famous O2 stadium in London, England last season, so it's a nice change of scenery for this year's event.

There are 48 players, which make up 24 teams, competing at the FIFA eClub World Cup. Among those 24 teams is G FUEL-sponsored FaZe Clan who will be looking to take it home.

Format

Players will compete in a 1v1 and 2v2 format, starting with four groups of six players.  Each team will play each other three times. The first time it will be a 1v1 on Xbox or PlayStation, the second time it will be on the other console in a 1v1, and the third time it will be a 2v2 between the two clubs. Teams can win up to nine points per match-set. 

The scoring format for the group stage is as follows:

• 0 point for a loss
• 1 point for a draw
• 3 points for a win

After the group stage is completed, the top four teams from each group will move on to the knock stage of the FIFA eClub World Cup. This is where the pressure starts to build. Instead of three games being played, there are only two matches played. First, it will be another 1v1 between the two sides, and then it will be concluded with another 2v2. If the series score is tied, there will be an additional 1v1 to decide the winner of the series. This stage of the tournament is single-elimination, meaning if your club loses a series, you are out of the tournament for good.

Prize Pool

While last year’s prize pool for the event was $500,000, this year’s FIFA eClub World Cup has a lesser $100,000 prize pool. The tournament will also distribute FIFA Global Series points among the 24 teams.

Prize Money Per Team

• 1st place: $40,000
• 2nd place: $20,000
• 3rd and 4th place: $10,000
• 5th-8th place: $2,000
• 9th-16th place: $1,000
• 17th-24th place: $500

Global Series Points Per Player

• 1st place: 2,000 points
• 2nd place: 1,400 points
• 3rd and 4th place: 800 points
• 5th-8th place: 500 points
• 9th-16th place: 300 points
• 17th-24th place: 150 points

Groups A and C were the first ones to duke it out. As the two groups played out, they became polar opposites, with group C being very one-sided and group A being more tight-nit.

The pressure was on. The knockout stages were finally here and the best 16 teams in the world were about to face off. If any of these teams lose their matches from now on, they are eliminated from the FIFA eClub World Cup, so a lot was riding on these matches.

All eyes were on the two powerhouses still left in the competition: Fnatic and Complexity Gaming. Both teams were seen as the front-runners heading into Sunday’s fixtures. Let’s take a look at how the rest of the event played out!
