Gamescom 2019 Day 5 Recap
Tons of video game fans came together to attend the annual Gamescom expo that is held in Cologne, Germany. Gamescom is Europe’s version of E3, with brand new information being dropped on the latest games and technology in the industry. From August 20th to 24th, fans were able to attend panels, community events, and participate in event-exclusive demos.
For the first time, Geoff Keighly hosted Opening Night Live, a way to dip attendee’s toes in the water before being overwhelmed with everything and anything gaming related. The opener allowed fans to check out new trailers from Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding and Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
The company with the biggest presence at Gamescom 2019 was Microsoft as they had over 100 individual gaming booths available for fans to check out. Attendees at Gamescom were able to check out the latest addition to the Minecraft series, Minecraft Dungeons. While Minecraft remains an open-world game, Dungeons drops fans into a new environment. Self-explanatory from the title, Minecraft Dungeons is a dungeon-crawler where you can team up with friends in order to reach the other side. There is a soft release window of 2020.
With Gamescom taking place in Cologne, Germany, EA often reveals new information about FIFA in order to help showcase the game. Attendees were the first to get their hands on FIFA 20 at Gamescom where they were able to play a timed-demo. EA is typically very tight-lipped about individual player ratings, so fans of FUT will have to hold out for a bit longer. FIFA 20 is dropping on September 27th on Xbox One and Playstation 4.
One of 2020’s biggest games is looking to be Marvel’s Avengers. Developers announced tons of new information for the game that will definitely have movie and comic fans ready to play as their favorite superheroes. Players will be tasked with reassembling the Avengers after a violent attack in San Francisco. Even more exciting, Marvel’s Avengers will tell an original, never before told story. Square Enix, the game’s developer, also revealed that they plan to expand the game for “years to come”, leading us to believe that Avengers will receive future DLC and expansions. Marvel’s Avengers will land on shelves on May 15th, 2020 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and Google Stadia.
With only a couple months left in 2019, video games fans will certainly have their hands full as the holiday season quickly approaches. In a few weeks, Borderlands 3 launches on September 13th that will certainly lead to a few people locking themselves away from the world in order to digest every piece of content from Pandora.
Gamescom 2019 definitely has us excited as 2020 looks to be packed with tons of great games.
